Hugogen Clipping vs Submagic
Submagic polishes short videos you already have, and it is very good at that. Its plans are gated by video length: against a one-hour podcast, the $41 tier is the first one that can open the file.

Pick Hugogen Clipping if
- The input is a long recording, a podcast, interview, webinar or stream, and the job is finding the moments worth posting.
- You want the set scored and ranked, so you know which clip to post first rather than guessing.
- You would rather not pay per member for a tool that only handles the last ten percent of the work.
Stick with Submagic if
- You already have the short video and the job is captions, zooms and pacing.
- Automatic removal of silences, filler and bad takes is the thing that saves you the most time.
- You want a large library of caption templates and B-roll to pull from while you polish.

Submagic's prices are per member on yearly billing, which is what their page shows by default, and its credits buy generated video and images rather than minutes of source video, so the allowances are not measuring the same thing as the other tools here. The limit that matters for a long recording is the per-tier video length. Hugogen meters clipping at 45 credits per minute of source video, charged on the video you put in rather than on how many clips come out, and editing the clips afterwards is free. The same credit pool also pays for video generation, design and chat, so the minutes above are a ceiling rather than a budget. Credits are allocated per seat and pooled across the workspace, and the usage view inside the app shows what every action costs before you spend on it.
Where Submagic is stronger today
Submagic is built for the part of the job that happens after the clip exists, and on that ground it is ahead of us.
Automatic cleanup of a take
Removing silences, filler and bad takes without you marking them, plus automatic zooms and audio cleanup, from their Pro plan. For talking-head footage that is the single biggest time saving in the category, and there is no equivalent here.
Caption styling
A much larger template library than our six looks, with custom templates and a custom word dictionary on Business. Captions are what they built their name on.
B-roll inside the edit
A free library on every tier and Storyblocks from Pro, available as you cut. Hugogen can generate video in the same workspace, but not as a step inside the clipping pass.
4K at 60 fps
Their Business tier exports 4K at 60 fps. Hugogen exports 720p on Free and 1080p from Pro.
Publishing and analytics
Posting to social and performance analytics from inside the tool, from their Pro plan. You export and post from elsewhere here.
This list is the one the team works from. Hugogen ships changes every week, so if something above is your deciding factor, check the changelog before you choose.
